AI: Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Week

This should be good.  Let's get right to it....

Jacob
Man In the Mirror by Michael Jackson

Oh no he di'int just try to guilt trip America into voting for him!!!  "If I'm in the bottom three this week, it won't be because I didn't sing well....it'll be because America isn't ready to look at themselves in the mirror."  I hate you Jacob.  I love that song but I hate you.  I may go vote for everyone BUT you since that's as close to voting against you as I can get.  He's dead to me.

Haley
Piece of My Heart by Janis Joplin

I liked it.  It showed her personality a little more and it suited her voice.  I don't really know what else to say.  I think her being a "contender" is probably an over-statement but she did well tonight.  I still don't think people click with her but who knows.

Casey
Have You Ever Seen the Rain? by CCR

Oh.  My.  Gosh.  I love the upright bass.  I love it.  It's the whole reason that one guy is my favorite in the Bare Naked Ladies.  It has to be done right though.  It has to seem like the person barely even knows it's there and yet their fingers just go go go.  Casey did it right.  Loved it.  Not to mention his little grunts and crooked mouth like he's up there telling a joke.  That boy is thoroughly enjoyable.

Lauren
Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin

Christian Slater is a fan.  So that's good.  She is a great singer.  Really really good.   I will say, however, that Gwen Stefani's clothes did her no favors.  Everything is black except big poofy pockets right at her thighs?  No.  And she is not a fauxhawk type.  P!nk? Yes.  Gwen?  Yup.  Lauren?  No.  It was unsettling.  I like her dimples though (on her face).

James
While My Guitar Gently Weeps by George Harrison

I'm calling this his "Tracks of my Tears" moment.  Sitting on a stool.  Guitar player by his side.  Textbook Adam Lambert.  I wonder when he'll have his "Born to Be Wild" moment.   And then his bird cage shoulder pads moment.  Eeek!  Let's keep him around a bit longer, ok?   He reminds me of my cousin Ben a little.  I know there are only a few of you who will get that but it needed to be said because I just figured it out.  If he ever sings "I Knew I Loved You" by Savage Garden I will FREAK.  OUT.

Scotty
That's All Right, Mama by Elvis Presley

Those girls running up?  I told you he was the Southern Beiber.  I thought this performance was cute.  His Elvis Halloween costume was the cutest thing I've ever seen.  I kinda want one of my boys to develop an Elvis fascination.  They've seen Lilo & Stitch though and nothing has happened.  I'll figure something else out.  But I digress.... my only complaint with Scotty (other than the fact that I would NEVER buy one of his songs in the future) is how he holds that microphone.  The off-to-the-side-with-just-the-fingertips-on-the-one-hand thing?  Lame.  Someone needs to coach him on that.  Will.i.am shoulda stepped in there rather than doing his math equations (Country + Rock = Country Rock).

Pia
River Deep Mountain High by Tina Turner

It should be illegal for Gwen Stefani to make clothes.  Worst.  Outfit.  Ever.  Singing was good.  You can add more commentary on her in the comments if you have any.  I don't.

Stefano
When A Man Loves A Woman by Percy Sledge

Ok, so here's how it's going to be with Stefano.  It'll be a roller coaster ride.  Some weeks he'll be cheesy and lame and other weeks he'll be pretty good and mostly tolerable.  Ok, it's more like a kiddie roller coaster but still, it's enough to keep us on our toes.  This week was pretty good and mostly tolerable.  He nailed that key change, didn't he?   Good week, Fano.  Let's see if it'll be enough.

Paul
Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash

Well that was fun, wasn't it?  Somehow, though, the lyric "I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die" doesn't have quite the impact when those pearly whites are grinning at you but he can't help it.  He's fun. I liked it.

So, there you have it.   Here are my picks.  Please leave yours in the comments.

Bottom Three:  Haley, Lauren, Jacob (wishful thinking)

Going Home: Haley

I do not understand what the judges see and hear when Jacob sings. I only suffer. Cringe. I'm just glad he was first so it could be over. I spent the entire performance looking at myself in the mirror. And I still want Jacob gone.
Haley is good. Still. Again. But will America vote for her? Find out tonight on the most dramatic rose ceremony in AI history.
I am in love with Casey. I want to go to his concert and grin at him.
Lauren is a talented singer. That is all.
James's first several notes had me scared he was going to suck rocks. But I felt okay by the end. I think the hubs would say men cry to much these days.
I can't stand Scotty. Especially can't watch him perform because of his microphone holding antics.
Pia's got pipes. The end.
Stefano doesn't have a hold on me.
Neither does Paul. But I had fun watching him grin about killing someone just to see him die.

Bottom: Jacob, Jacob, Jacob.
Everyone else I can bear to watch for another week.

I love Jame's and Casey. Jacob was pretty nauseating this week. I had to walk out of the room during Scotty's performance because I was getting a little embarrassed for him. I hope Scotty goes home, country isn't really my thing and I don't think I can take it if he tries to take a step away from country again like he did last night.

Welcome back--one week without you was torture.

Jacob--everything michelangelo said times 10.
Haley--good but won't win
Casey-I'm still a fan but this number didn't move me as much as I had hoped.
Lauren--loved her song--hated her look. Who wears diapers on stage? I'm just sayin.
James--enjoyed it but still, his face flashes "James-Adam-James-Adam" It's distracting.
Scotty--he moves like a 7th grader at his first school dance. (except for Charlie--Charlie won't move like that----ever)
Pia--she's a pro--still like her a lot but someone needs to teach her to move her hips.
Stefano-he's a cute kid but won't win.
Paul--still bland.

Bottom Three: Paul, Haley, Stefano
Going home: Haley but I want it to be Jacob

Missed you all last week. I hope you had a good vacation!...Talking about missing someone I thought I was going to miss Simon this season! I haven't much until recently. Anyone else? It is just too much of a love affair from the judges.
You have JoLo continuing to make a list and check things off.
I love, in a manly sort of way of course, Steven Tyler but he loves everyone. I want more of his fun off-the-cuff comments, but there are typically just nice comments coming from his mouth.
Randy is cool, but too many "in it to win it" comments.
I miss Simon mixing the pot and recently, I think more times than not, I wonder what would Simon say about that. I know I am living in the past...get over it, but...I just want some constructive critisism please! You know he would have said something about Lauren's outfit and hair - what was that?! Pia is very pretty, but her outfit reminded me of my cow costume (minus ears and utters) at holloween. Please keep Gwen from playing dress up!!
That is about all the crisism I have after all of my missing Simon's critical tongue comments above. I liked most everyone. I do like Scotty, not to win it, but in general. (I realize that I might be alone in that comment in this group.) I still want Haley booted. I will add Lauren and Paul in the bottom three.

Yay! Glad to have you back!

I become an even bigger Casey fan every single week. Love him.

I can't get over how huge james' head looks when he is standing next to Ryan.

I liked haley's performance but what was that little march thing she did across the stage? Awkward.

Jacob's little guilt trip ain't gonna work on me.

bottom 3:
Stefano, Jacob and Lauren
going home:
Stefano

I just need you to know how much I love Will.I.Am. He's hilar!!

And Jacob may as well have sung "let's get it on" what with his humping ( as jespy said) his backup singer.

Even Howie called Jacob groovy. I'm only voting for Casey. And if I find out any of you didn't, then I will spread the word that you are a Jacob fan. He butchered my favorite MJ song.

Lauren died the day she wore that outfit. so bad. What is this Gift of the Maji? Her worst feature on display.
Jacob, in Vanessa's words, "wow, he's emotional."
Joe said that Pia looks like Uncle Layne
My bottom three, no idea what America will say:
Stefano, Lauren, Pia (I'm bored with her)

My favs: Paul, Casey, and I can't wait to see how Haley progresses.

after sing the results:

might I mention, I was the only one who mentioned Pia... and the only one who didn't mention Jacob?

after all the fuss, I am sad that they don't make this big of a deal about each of the contestants as they leave. rude.

she'll sign record deal tonight.

Yup, switch Lauren (one diva) with another diva (Jacob) and you nailed it, Chrissi. Such nerve for you to put her in the bottom three and now look where we are.... Pia gone.

This happens every season, doesn't it? Some big shocker no one saw coming. Ironically it happened with Constantine and here he was tonight singing some strange rendition of Unchained Melody.

Nothing will ever beat the shocker of when Daughtry left though. I may have cried a little but he's done Ok for himself.

I clapped a little when Pia got the news.

I wonder if the judges are upset with saving Casey now? I have no fav at this point even before Pia left. I thought she would be at least top three though. Pia leaving before Haley is a travesty. I did pretty well at selecting the bottom three at least...oops!? Props to Chrissi!

Okay so I missed this because I was stuck in a train station in Queens during the performances, but I did get to see the results show.

I want to tell you that I am actually going to go back and watch the performances because your post peaked my interest. See how talented you are?

I'm totally agreeing with your picks. My fav is Casey. And I hate Jacob too, I was totally hoping he'd be in the bottom 3. I thought Gwen did an awful job on the wardrobe for the girls. I hated their outfits, I agree she should NOT be designing clothing. And that Scotty kid looks like the MAD Magazine kid!

michelangelo said...

mad magazine kid is totally right. my husband has been calling him a young george bush. but i like mad magazine kid better.
