Paring Down

So I got my Christmas stuff all up yesterday. I don't know about any of you but I dread this every year. I have to haul everything out, go through all the crap I don't like anymore but can't throw away for sentimental reasons, remember where it all goes, do my yearly dusting of the mantle in preparation for the garland, figure out how to hide all the cords, etc. It's exhausting to think about.

But a strange thing happens EVERY YEAR that I forget about.

About midway through the aforementioned process (right about when I'm done hauling everything out of the basement and discover my bin of Christmas stuff I HEART), my love of decorating for the holidays takes over. I let my senses take over like Edward does when he's hunting and head into some kind of a Christmas cheer induced frenzy. I almost always take a trip to Target that night and spend waaaay too much money getting stuff for "new places" I've decided to decorate this year. It is a beautiful thing and now I smile all day long looking at my festive home.

However, I did do some cutting back this year because of our upcoming cruise. I decided to not do lights on the outside of the house. I have my lit wreath on the door and my two lit Christmas trees in pots flanking our porch, but we didn't hang any up on the actual house. I also didn't put my lit garland up my banisters. And finally, me no setty up my little Christmas village.

Sad, I know. But it's ok. I've come to terms with it and believe me, no one would come here & accuse us of not celebrating Christmas.

So here's to simplifying a little.

In other news, I've dug myself into quite a hole with my Christmas cards. They are turning out to be a major pain in my buttox. Cute, but probably not worth it, really. You'll know what I mean when you get yours.

And how do you "get yours?"

Email me your home addy. I can't be tracking all your addresses down. Srsly. Didn't I mention I'm simplifying this year? emailtiffhere at gmail dot comerzz.

PS It was a total pain hauling this new festive template out of the basement, you gize. But I did it for you.

I'm C&Ping that last comment and emailing it to the Ps. Yer in for it now.

I don't wanna post any pics of my decor because I don't want to make others feel bad that their decor is, like, a quarter as cute as mine. Christmas is about lifting people up, not slamming them down through my gift of decorating. Or it's about giving. I forget.

something lamerz like that. you plus cut and paste ekwals me deaderzing you.

can you cut and paste on a mac? justcuriousinboise.

Elder Jack Anderson said...

You can cut & paste on a Mac but you have to use actual scissors and some scotch tape. Totally worth it though cuz the result is a one of a kind work of art. That's what PP told me anyhoo.

Tiffers, I agree with Anon about posting pictures. We all know you're the best at decorating and I usually pirate your ideas---so give 'em up. I'll send pix if you will. (I'll send pix anyway as I bought a few new things this year also.) I was having a discussion with Uncle Visor today about "no more chachkies (I have no idea how to spell that) and he was confused. "What exactly are chachkies"? I just rolled my eyes and told him not to worry--we don't have any. I have moved on to more serene, minimalist Christmas decorations. Sort of.

And your Christmas card issue--ya--no thanks. I've moved on to upload that photo to Costco, order, pick up the next day, stick that address label on and out they go. Same amount of love attached as those of you who "scrapbook/create/make your own". I'm just sayin'.

Elder Jack Anderson said...

Um, no, actually, the more time you spend on your cards the more love is attached. I didn't make that up. I googled it.

Buuuuuut, yeah, I'm definitely going to send out less love next year. Mark my words.

As for decor, I definitely am a minimalist. So, this year I had a stroke of genius. I didn't get out my little village that Milly painted for me so I thought "Hmmmmm, what should I put on top of the buffet?" So I got out my christmas dishes and staked them up all cute, filled my trifle bowl with ornaments and stuff like I was about to have some big christmas dinner party or something. Genius I tell ya.

I didn't read this or anything cuz I'm at bestbuy and the geeks are hovering over my shoulder glaring at me.

Michael Landon always had a harrier chest than Neil Diamond... I don't know what she's thinking. Besides, Brazilian is the new fad.

Memzy said...

Don't glare back Jenny because they might not fix your compy right.

And can I add how very pleasurable it is to have Kim around again? Tickles.

Do you ever feel like you walked into a room and it suddenly went quiet and you are sure they were talking about you? This isn't anything like that. it is worse. I have no idea what Anon is saying. Except, of coarse, the one Jenny wrote. I like her!

You must post pictures of your toned down decorating. I'm sure it's lovely.

I would love a Christmas card, but I'm not even on your "people me likes" sidebar, so...

Elder Jack Anderson said...

There are about 85 people not on my "People Me Likes" list that will get Christmas cards from Landeelu Landerson this year, Emily so no worried.

Plus, I forgot to tell you gize. As I was decorating my blog my blogroll got deleted. I had to put everyone back on manually. It took longer to do that than to decorate my whole house. Srsly.

::whispering to Katie:: No one knows what AA is talking about... ever. Just go with it.

ManicMandee said...

You sure get a lot of anonymous comments. Do you know all of them, or is it the same person? I see I finally made your feed list. Do I make your Christmas card list too? I'm still not sure if you like me or not.

eekareek said...

I am not going to bother emailing my address to you until I know for sure that you like me. I hate rejection.

I want to see pictures of your decor. I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

Jenny said...

I pared down Christmas decor this year, too. I have a lot of decorations, it doesn't all have to go up.

In other decorating news, I just decorated my blog with this same template. I guess great minds think alike... :)

Since you managed to send Burn-Z to my house I'm assuming you somehow pirated my address. Are you stalking me?
I hope you are an unconditional card giver, because I have never sent a Christmas card in my life.

Anonymous said...

Markie I haven't either and Memz and Aunt Visah and Landee still unconditionally send me theirs! So they don't like you if you don't get one.

p.s. some people understand me sometimes! That was rood.

Elder Jack Anderson said...

I've said what needs to happen if you want a Christmas card. As they say, the ball is in your court.

Markie, I give about a 2 year grace period and then if I don't get a card then I dramatically scratch you off my list. It's a system that works for me.

Elder Jack Anderson said...

AA is excluded from that rule though, btw. Cuz I'm talking about blood here. Aunts, uncles, and grandparents get a free pass too. Not cousins though. Memz has to send one or else ::doing the cut across my throat thingy::

Memzy said...

Oh puhleeez. Like I wouldn't send you one. I want you to see how perfect and attractive my life is.

Hot Pants said...

I bought cards, that's the first step.

Anna B said...

I guess since I am still on your sidebar you must like me. But I'm not sure I know how to email you??? I will totally send you one of my cards, I went way easy this year but last year let me tell you how forever those cards took me to make.

E said...

If you want to simplify things, you may email me the card, and I'll print it out myself, and place it on fireplace next to my "Happy Holidays from William's Pest Control" card.

BTW, did you know that last year, and the year before, etc., I sent Memzy a Christmas card and got nothing in return? Snubbed. I did, however, admire her card from afar, cuz Annie posted it on her blog. This year, I made her a hoodie. I don't expect anything in return, though. I'm a giver.
