Take Me Out to the Ball Game....

If you listened to the latest G&T Weekly podcast then you know that baseball has been taking over our lives lately. Lots of games.... lots of practices.... lots of fun. This is JBird's first year of actual competitive baseball where a score is kept, outs actually mean something and (this is the best part) the kids are pitching rather than the coaches. Baseball through the rec league was lamerz. No keeping score, the coach pitched (or some kids had to use the tee), and there were no outs.... the innings were determined by the fact that everyone had batted. Totally stoopy.

JBird is loving this new league because JBird is a baseball player who loves the nuances of the game. He loves stealing bases, getting signals from the third base coach, and the boy loves to pitch and he has already worked his way into a regular pitching position.

My little southpaw usually plays first base when he's not pitching. He's also frequented center & right field.

I love these pics of him pitching. He looks like a pro. However, I cannot believe the anxiety level I reach when he is pitching. All of a sudden the whole game depends on my little JBird and while he thrives on the pressure, it makes me crazy.

So if you're wondering where I am on any given weekend, I'm probably sitting on some hard bleachers (cuz I'm too lazy to bring my own chairs), eating sunflower seeds and cheering for my JBird.

This is a tough topic for me. I had parents who tried to talk us out of doing activities because they either didn't want to fork out the cash or didn't want to deal with the commitment of games, etc. If we insisted, they might show up for a game or something once in while, but I learned very quickly that they just weren't going to be cheering on the sidelines. Now that I have kids, I'm finding myself having to fight the overwhelming urge to hate organized activities that require my presence. Isn't that sad? I don't want to have to drive people places, keep track of regular practices, get up and dressed on a Saturday to go and watch. Pitiful. Despite those purely organic feelings, I'm determined not to be my parents. So, I go to the games and it surprises me when I have a good time or find myself stressed out over my kid having the ball. Or completely ignoring the puck - as it is these days with Link in hockey.

All of that overly-personal stuff having been shared, I can say I'm very impressed with your baseball post. Good for J-bird. I think it's fascinating how into this sports stuff he is and how much he knows. He's a smart one, that guy. Not that you needed me to tell you that. :) I love your pictures and love that you get stressed over him pitching. Awesome.

I'm also very pleased to hear that you like to eat sunflower seeds. One of my favorite snacks.

I wish we were a sports family but we are really more of a dessert family. Also it might turn out that we are a book family.

This post and your podcast makes me wonder if we should reform though cuz you make it sound so fun.

I wouldn't be caught dead bringing oreos as a snack tho.

He is so adorable but I have to say that I'm glad we're not a sports family. There I said it! I like my afternoons and weekends but he is adorable in his outfit and you can tell that he loves the game. YAY JBird!

Lil baseball players are the cutest! Especially Jbird pitching.

We are definitely not a sports family, despite having three boys. No shame tho. We have drama, art, and possibly band. Cool, huh?

Oh, that is so cute. I listened to that podcast, one of them. It was adorable. I don't know how he knows way more than me. He is a little prodigy. He is going to bug the heck out of his wife someday...
