It's Go Time

Did I mention I'm going on a cruise with my awesome in-laws in December? Did you know I ALWAYS procrastinate Christmas shopping? Do you think it's too early to put up Christmas decor even if we're not gonna be here over Thanksgiving cuz we're going to be gone Dec 13-21st and I wanna enjoy it a little before we go? Do you know, as I do, that that last question was grammatially incorrect? Would you rather live without your computer or your cell phone for a month? Is your mind now going a million miles an hour?

Ugh. Me too.

So here's my strategy for Christmas this year. I am pretending that today is December 15th (ish). That is usually when I do my best/most frantic shopping. I want all my shopping to be done by Thanksgiving this year so I don't have to fight the crowds or worry that the stuff I ordered isn't going to be here on time. I also don't want to stand in an hour long line at the post office to mail anything either.

This is the new me.

I refuse to be a slave to the holidays this year.

I got 2/3 of my shopping for my kids done last night via the world wide web. It felt sooooo good. I cruised the internet, added stuff to my carts, put in my credit card number & clicked.

And then I wondered if that was breaking the Sabbath.

Shoot.

I, personally would be devastated if I missed out on the holiday stuff during that time. Shed can attest, I'd be a grouchy gus. It's like I was a Who from Whoville in a past life or something. Gets me all sortsa happy. But the internet shopping sounds good. But with all the shipping costs? Fill me in on your info.

Who did you cause to work? I say nay.

But the fact that you didn't realize it was the Sabbath until afterwards... maybe that could give you pause.

Ya know what I do every year? I tell myself I'm not going to go overboard on the presents, cuz I don't want anymore "stuff" in my house and we would rather spend our money on vacays, and so I buy hardly anything, and then a few days before Christmas I get all panicky/in-the-Christmas-spirit and go hog wild at Target. I would MUCH rather spend my money on a nice family holiday cruise/vacay, but Tony has to work/we're-broke/no-one-will-give-us-a-free-one. But this year's gonna be different, I solemnly swear, because I have a budget of $20 each and I'm sticking to it. Paris, here we come, keep that Eiffel Tower light on!

Memz, "fight the crowds or worry that the stuff I ordered isn't going to be here on time. I also don't want to stand in an hour long line at the post office to mail anything either." <---- THAT is what you miss? What the H is the matter with you? W/e.

Que, I KNEW it was the Sabbath cuz I was resting & serving the heck outta people, but I didn't think about the whole "shopping on Sunday" thing until after the fact. It didn't feel like shopping as I was sitting in my family room.

ESP, promise me you'll take a pic of the kids on Christmas morning with their $20-stuffed-to-the-gills stockings, mmmkay?

Tiffers, Your plan is sound, organized, perfect. Good luck with that.

Hey, are you trying to talk me out of my $20 rule so I won't have any money left to go to Paris? And stockings don't count, cuz I mostly stuff them with junk I have to buy anyways, and cuz I said so.

PS. I'll totally take pictures Christmas morning, regardless. I've made it a tradition around here. Remember by bulb ornament reflection picture? Awesome. I started a reflection photo trend with that one.

A). I don't go to the post office to mail stuff. I either click it to be mailed direct from online (way beforehand cuz I'm a total genius and stuff)or I have Shed do it from his work (cuz they have to mail crap all the time and he's nice).

2). "fighting the crowds" is not my fave but I shop strategically during the morning hours when all are in school, even the preschoolers. I NEVER do day after Thanksgiving. Just shoot me now.

Blue). The stuff I would miss out on is being in my house during those weeks with it all decorated and stuff and catching Christmas movies and cartoons on TV with the kids and sipping hot cocoa on the couch after the kiddies are in bed, etc. Like I said, I'm a "Who", super cheesy and stuff and not ashamed to say so.

The first year I had all my shopping done before Thanksgiving, was the year Meg was born. She was due on 12/10, so I figured I'd have all my shopping done, quit my job just before Thanksgiving and hope she came early.

Nope, my sister came for two weeks...no baby. My mom came for a week after that...no baby. She had to go home on 12/23 to play piano for Christmas thingy. I had Meg on 12/24, (my brother's bday, btw.)

BUT, I was converted to before Thsgvng/online shopping.

Memz, I'm with you on the Black Friday thing, unless it's JoAnn's 99 cent/yd flannel. I have to stock up for RS projects. :-)

I don't think people are actually reading your post. I was expecting to come in here for some hard-hitting true thoughts on computer vs cell phone. They say they are your friends...
Computer-BTW
Oh, and the lady that lived in this house has a butt load of catalogs that are still delivered here. One is a gem. I am totally done, as soon as I actually order the stuff. Looking and picking out is the hard part, right?

I agree Katie. They're all a bunch of skimmers.

Skimmers=not real friends I hear.

Memzy said...

Oh freak. I'd rather not have my cell phone than my compy. That's fer super duh. There are payphone's right? But no payphone can get me my blogosphere.

Umm, Katie, you only answered one out of six questions. Who's the skimmer?

PS. Computer. Duh.

You are a part of my exclusive bloggers club. You are...
I am just to lazy to add you to my OLD outdated list, not gonna do it.
So you're seriously not gonna comment? FINE! I'll add you! Baby!

Cell phone. I still have my land line.

I was super sick last year being preggo so ordered all our Christmas online. I justified the shipping costs after I tried shopping Brick & Mortar and threw up in the Gap parking lot (no garbage can in sight, hello???). It was so fun once the packages started rolling in. The UPS man and I were close last year...

I know you don't KNOW me that well, but would you be so cool as to leave a comment on my sister's blog? "The Heaton Family"-link from my blog. It is gonna be her Christmas present. Don't worry, I'll put your name on it too.

Computer.

Unless it were late at night and I was on an abandoned backwoodsy road and I experience car trouble. Then I would want my cell.
