Prom

There has been a call-out for prom pictures from Girlfriend. I hesitate because, while not really a rebel, I apparently didn't care much for modesty standards. I didn't think much of it at the time but I sure would have if I'd have known this day would come. I would have headed straight for the nearest Jessica McClintock outlet and picked me up something purty. As it was, I got some black slanky thang that my mom added some extra straps to in an attempt to make me look "presentable." She also made me a little shoulder wrap but I'm pretty sure I never saw that again after the limo ride.

Let's start with Junior Prom, though. I was super modest & in keeping with the yet-to-be-printed For The Strength of the Youth pamphlet. If only I would have had that pamphlet..... ::sigh::

Anyway, Junior Prom, the year was 1992. The picture is totally textured and does not scan well. But you get the gist.

Now Senior Prom.... yes, I was still dating Joey. W/e. I can't find the official photographer prom pic, but here we are at my parent's house for a little pre-prom photoshoot. This was before heading over to a pre-prom party with another photo shoot (group shots, etc) and then to the actual prom with the actual photographer which has now gone MIA.

That was the first & last time I have ever had my hair done professionally for a fancy occasion. I didn't even have it done for my wedding.

For a full-length view you can see this card my friend, Queso, made me for my 30th bday. I was going through a "Constantine phase." Please sing his words to that Partridge Family song, thanks.

Yeeeeah, it had a bit of a slit.

So there you go. The checkered past of my prom dresses. I hope none of my Laurals ever read my blog.

::walking away ashamedly::

****EDIT****

So, if you've read this, I'm officially asking YOU to the Prom. I wanna see what everyone was wearing too! If you didn't go, then do a post about why/what you did instead. kyou'rewelcomeforthepostideabye.

I could tell by yer name that you were kinda a skank, looks like I was right. What did yer Laural Advisor think??

Thank you Erin. I'm so glad you got here first.

My Laural advisor didn't have the privilege of seeing this and my mom was the YW Pres so.... wait, does that answer your question?

At least you didn't wear it to church the next day. Bareness aside, it did look kinda classy, though.

I remember shopping for my brother's girls for prom. Their mom died when they were little, so I was entrusted with making sure they didn't buy anything too bare. One girl was no prob, the other one I finally had to tell her that if i sent her home with her pick her dad would kill me and her mother would haunt me forever. This about 1998...there was NADA in this entire county that didn't look like either a hooker, a latina quincenera or a grandma. We ended up sewing.

I went to Prom in 1976, Jessica McClintock Gunne Sax was all the rage. No idea if I can find pics, but I'll look.

That is one H of a slit! You look hot! Black gloves? Grrr. No way my would my mom approve. She made all of our prom/homecoming dresses. I have already posted some of mine in a past post (the one where I reviewed Twilight) so I won't subject anyone to that again. But for my Jr. prom, I had a cream-colored dress that was similar to your hot-pink one.

Hey, didn't you read my comment? I did post my prom pics. Do I have to redo them? Should I instead post Erin's for her? Cuz I have them. And Amy's.

I'll take care of my own thanks, Jenny. If you did it, it would be like me answering an AskMemzy!
I may throw in a few of Dwight's. He thinks he threw them away. I just couldn't let it happen.

I forgot to add how 90's hot you looked. You can't go wring with hot pink!

Elder Jack Anderson said...

Re-do your prom pics with different commentary....less Bella & Edward and more Jenny & whats-his-name. And def post Erin's. She's having issues figuring out how to do a profile pic so I'm worried about her posting prom pics.

Amy... yes on the Dwight pics. Very much so. AND yours. Big time yours.

I already uploaded a few of Tony's. I have files and files of old family pictures scanned into my computer. Knew that would come in handy. I will do Amy's if she does not(<--threat).

It's amazing what a year will do, right Cyndi?

Btw, I just want to add that my very talented seamstress of a mother made my hot pink numbah. Taffeta is da bomb yo! And those were her silver shoes that I LOVED and was so excited to wear.

Wow that is some slit. Thanks for the free post advice. I'll be posting my prom pics asap.

Thanks for the pictures! I actually loved both dresses. They were super cute. The hair isn't bad either. It's like you knew that 15 years later someone was gonna want to see them so you went very classic!! Verrrry smart! I'm Impressed.

Hot Pants said...

you know that photographer in the first pic took a risk with that carpet. I would have stuck with a solid color. What if your dress had been sewn with Memzies floral material. Total clash. You got real lucky.

Elder Jack Anderson said...

BR, in 2003 I had a YW accidentally see these pics of me and she said that she would TOTALLY wear that dress. I was both flattered & ashamed. Who wants to be the example of classy immodesty? It's a fine line.

Amy, that is the primary reason why I always stick to classic solid colors... the carpet choices of the photog.

For you Junior Prom you looked "popular and funny". For your senior Prom you looked "popular, but not very funny". ;o)

Emily said...

You look pretty dang hot in that black "scantily" dress. Your parents let you wear that??

Elder Jack Anderson said...

Markie, I get your not-so-coded code and you are now in timeout for 10 minutes 22 seconds. I'll let you know when you can come off your chair.

Emily, here's the deal. We were living in New Jersey at the time and, obviously this is NO excuse, but I looked like a freaking NUN compared to all my friends' dresses. We're talking miniskirt strapless numbahs. Aaaand they were drunk. So yeah, I was a saint and my parents knew it. When I look back at this & wonder why this was fine with my parents the phrase "It's all relative" comes to mind.

Just so you know, BeeBee will NOT be wearing things of this nature.

Memzy said...

I totally forgot your mom was YW pres.

Carol said...

Tiffers, Is it OK to say you're as cute now as you were then in a more refined, stylish way? And the hot pink number and Emily's flowered number--how funny is that? Frousins to the core. We all knew it was a risk for you two to be college roommates--what if you hate each other after a month? What if your Dad (my favorite brother) and I have to choose sides? It was a joy to watch you two become like sisters--one feeding off the other, etc. It was inevitable. And the silver shoes were perfect!!

Anna B said...

So let me get this right. You wore a somewhat immodest dress to the prom with a boy you had previously went to a prom with??? Does that mean you were dating exclusively and wearing immodest clothing. I think that's 2 commandments you broke in the "yet-to-be printed" For the Strength of the Youth Pamphlet. Oh wait, and your Mom was the YW Pres. Wha? And don't even get me started on Constantine...

Jenny said...

Thanks for the post idea--I'll have to make that be my next post. I'll have to see if I can find the pictures, though...
