Mizundastood

A few weeks ago at a YWs activity, we all sat down and took a personality test. It's The Color Code. I had remembered taking this a looooong time ago. I remembered the color I turned out to be. I thought that now, being older and wiser, I might have changed colors. But apparently your personality never changes. Wierd.

So here are the personality colors & a quick synopsis of what it means to be that color:

  • RED (Motive: POWER)—These are the power wielders. Power, the ability to move from point A to point B, and get things done is what motivates and drives these people. They bring great gifts of vision and leadership and generally are responsible, decisive, proactive and assertive.

  • BLUE (Motive: INTIMACY)—These are the do-gooders. Intimacy, connecting, creating quality relationships and having purpose is what motivates and drives these people. They bring great gifts of quality and service and are generally loyal, sincere, and thoughtful.

  • WHITE (Motive: PEACE)—These are the peacekeepers. Peace, or the absence of conflict, is what motivates and drives these people. They bring great gifts of clarity and tolerance and are generally kind, adaptable, good-listeners.

  • YELLOW (Motive: Fun)—These are the fun lovers. Fun, or the joy of doing something just for the sake of doing it, is what motivates and drives these people. They bring great gifts of enthusiasm and optimism and are generally charismatic, spontaneous, and sociable.
So there are about 45 different questions to answer. Most of them are made up of 4 different words and you're supposed to pick which word best describes you. Some of these questions were difficult because I'd like to think I'm all four words like:

a) independent
b) dependable
c) even-tempered
d) trusting

or

a) confident
b) disciplined
d) pleasant
d) charismatic

Right? I mean, who wouldn't want to be those things? I picked B & A respectively, in case you were wondering.

Then there were the tough ones because I didn't want to be ANY of them. Like:

a) insensitive
b) judgmental
c) boring
d) undisciplined

or

a) tactless
b) hard to please
c) lazy
d) loud

I mean, who wants to be any of those? Again, I picked B & D cuz I can sense you are dying to know.

I was surprised they didn't have one that said:

a) lame
b) stupid
c) ugly
d) gassy

I guess I woulda had to pick D on that one. IF that were a real question. Which it wasn't. But if it were..... I'm just saying. I'd rather be gassy than those other three. But I digress....

My point is that I turned out to be a YELLOW. I was the only YW leader who was a YELLOW, btw. Almost all of the rest of them were BLUEs. What a bunch of freakin' do-gooders!!! And "having purpose" is soooo o-ver-ra-ted ::clap clap clapclapclap:: No, I'm totally kidding. Of course they are BLUE... that is why they are in YWs. But everyone was like "Oh OF COURSE Sister Anderson is a YELLOW! Duh!!"

But here's the thing that no one realizes about me. I had 19 answers that were yellow..... but I had 15 that were white. FIFTEEN! I think it's a odd mix myself but, really, I think it's dead on. I tend to avoid conflict to a fault. I don't like returning things to the store because I always think they are going to question why I'm bringing it back. Gty learned long ago that he needed to be the one to call if there were problems with our CC bill or something because if they were like "Um, yeah, you bought $100,000 worth of stuff from Croatia and you're gonna pay for it." I'd be like "Oh, um, ok." And I can adapt like a chameleon, baby. I just thought that was because I have lived in six different states in 12 years though. The thing is that people rarely see my whiteness (except in Hip Hop class---hazzah!).

But this begs the question: Is it because they can't get past the yellowosity that is me or because I don't let them?

Deep Thoughts by Landee Handy

I'm guessing it's the latter. I like to keep my great gifts of clarity and tolerance on the DL.

I remember we took this in school and you were yellow. The descriptor in the color code index was "life is a party and you are the host" which tooootally described you and still does. FYI one can change- I was always blue/white and now I am blue/red, which means you say mean crap and then feel bad about it. At least you are still fun. Don't make fun of us bluesies btw because you are no good if you don't have an audience dying for some good entertainment.

I am a solid TAN. Just a perfect mix of everything. Not too much unlike Mary Poppins.

If you were truly being honest with yourself, you would have been RED. I know you really wanted to pick D-Undisciplined.

BTW, I pronounce GTY, Giggity, like what Quagmire from the Family Guy says when he is being a perv.

All of those colors sound "nice". What I'm wondering is why they don't have a color there for JERK (Motive: Making everyone around them miserable).

Keeping Up with the Joneses said...

so where does a person find such a test if they, say, wanted to answer all 45 questions to find out what color they are?

Landee said...

www.thecolorcode.com

Mark, they do have that color...it's RED. They shroud it in nice words like disciplined, motivated, leadership, etc. But we all know it's just a power hungry jerk.

Sorry to all you reds.

I say Jitty. Then I say "Let's get jitty wid it."

My husband so White, he glows (on the test, and how he dances). He forces me to be Red sometimes, and I hate being Red, because SOMEONE has to find the family a home and buy it. I've gotten really good at forging his signature.

Be right back, gotta go take the test...

ajesplin said...

I'm back. Uh, that test costs money. I'm just gonna assume I'm Blue with a bit of Red forced on me, which is ironic, don't you think? --like opening your kitchen drawer to get a knife, and there's 10,000 spoons.

Landee said...

K, Imma retype the test and you all can just tell me how many As, Bs, Cs, and Ds you got.

Be back later. This is kinda like a free ride... when you've already paid.

I too remember taking this test in college. I'm a blue. Not like a navy blue or sky blue, but a solid ROYAL blue if I remember right. And I'm not ashamed of that either. ::shifting eyes around::

But srsly, what Queso said. That why you so well with the other colors of our most awesomerest roomies EVAH.

Now, I am definitely thinking that you don't let the people see your white. Cuz I remember banking on your yellowness a time or two in college (can you say Brandy?) and you coming out swinging your white flag and I was left to look like the jerky-red that I had acted. So out of character. And so I learned. That yellow is just barely covering up your white and stuff.

Landee said...

Yeah, see, part of yellow is you're all talk and then when push come to shove you're like "Wha? Let's just go partay!"

Was this Brandy incident regarding her hair all over the soap? Or something else? I forget.

Landee said...

K, my redness is showing... I was just able "to move from point A to point B and get things done" so I found a website where you can take the test for free.

See my EDIT in the post.

I was a Yellow, followed closely and equally by the other 3. So like I said, I am a light brown/tan. Just like Mary Poppins.

Landee said...

I just mixed all those colors together in BeeBee's watercolor kit and it actually kinda came out purple. Just sayin'.

Amy Thurston said...

Whatever, I'm purple then. So well rounded, like Jenny's triangle after it'been in her stomach for awhile.

Amy Thurston said...

That should have said, "it's been", where is ask memzy when you need her?

Landee said...

I knew what you meant... unlike SOME people (book snobs, mostly) I don't nitpick people's grammar.

You are exactly like Gty, btw. A bit more on the Yellow, but close on all the rest of the colors.

ajesplin said...

Ah, just as I suspected. I'm Blue with Red coming in second. I wasn't always that way, ya know. That's what happens when you marry a white guy.

*you say it you are birthday*

::tears of laughter::

I just want to say that I giggle at grammar errors/typos, I make them as often as everyone else, and I rarely *if ever* correct people. I am content to giggle at them behind their back, unlike a certain emergency contact person who will call if I've made one...

Memzy said...

Grammer mistackes and tiping messups areNt a big deel at all,

Cristin said...

I sooooo did not have to take the test but I did anyway and I was soooo right on. I'm so white I glow in the dark...hmm kind of like in real life. I do have a tinge of yellow and blue but not much and barely...like as in 1 red out of the whole test. I married a red, we only need 1 red in this house BELIEEEEEEEVE ME! In fact it's good I'm a peace keeper cause he keeps me pretty busy with his "honesty". He also comes up with these "great" ideas on how to take care of our kids...pfft.

Tiffers,
I'm light green (5 red, 14 blue, 15 white, 11 yellow). I didn't answer 5 questions 'cuz I didn't like them. I'm ignoring the red all togehter. So, Em--would you agree with this outcome?
Aunt Visor/Mom

BTW tomorrow on The Ellen Show--Stephanie Meyer will be the top guest!!! Set your DVR's!!!

Landee said...

Aunt Visor... consider my DVR SET! Thanks for the hot tip. As for your color test... what color has a streak of rebelliousness in it? Didn't answer questions because you didn't like them? And what, you pick and choose what commandments to follow too? HA!

Cristin, I wonder if a marriage between two reds would ever work. I just cannot imagine how. You gotsta have the white/red combo there so good work.

Carol said...

Ummmmm--wellllll-yes. RE: Jaimoca Almond Fudge. Now what would say is the main ingredient in this treat? Guilty as charged. Does the taking Gramma and her friends out to dinner balance/cancel out the coffee flavored ice cream? Please say yes. And does a years supply of food include chocolate and various other candies in Cris' candy cupboard? And does NOT doing geneology because that's my brothers job OK? I could go on, but not gonna.

Memzy said...

Mom/Aunt Visor-- I think it toadally fits! Light green it is.

sarastrasser said...

I am white. 20-C's, 14-B's, 11-D's and 0-A's. Should I be concerned that I don't have a single A? That is so not A to ask if I should be concerned about not having any A's. I need to work on my A'ss <---oops typo.

Cristin said...

Sara, that's very B of you to ask if you should be concerned. I only had 1 A and I'm ok with that. Don't worry, let the A's have there A's and we'll just work on our A'SS'

SO - I am pretty red -but with blue being a close second - so at least I use all that "power" to do good and serve others . . . right ? (and bye th weigh, I am a prefect spelerr and I neber make tipos !)
